There was a little demo I made when I was 11, and I think it’s floating around the Internet. It’s called “Smoky Black Nights,” and it’s all about being at the Shore. Then there’s the song “Invisible,” which is about the son of my parents’ friends. They were always at my house and their son was my age, and he would always tell me about other girls he liked. I felt, well, invisible. Obviously. So I wrote that song about it, and it was a bonus track on my first album.

Ellen DeGeneres. Every time I’ve been on her show, I’ve had the most fun ever. I think she has such talent for bringing out the best stories and the best part of your personality. That social dynamic is something I’d love to learn.

My ambition was to start a new book with the next album and not just a new chapter. I’ve surprised myself a little because we’ve already put together a lot of songs, and I feel like the album has taken on this new sound which was what I was looking for.
